TOPIC: WHAT HAPPENS AT THE LAST SUPPER?
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5: 21. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him
Beloved, I welcome you to another Moment of Daily Encounter! In continuation of redemption story; Jesus travel down to Jerusalem because that is where He will be accused and condemned to death.
He then had communion or the last supper with His disciples before going to Gethsemane. What happens after the last supper is our focus today.
What happened after the last supper Jesus had with the disciples?
The Bible said Jesus who knew no sin was made sin for us(2COR. 5:21)!
So at what point did that happened? It happened at the last supper:! Jesus said;
John 6: 55. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
So, as they finished taking the communion that evening. Jesus became sin and went straight away to Gethsemane.
Now at the communion table the Bible said:
Matthew 26: 37. And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. 38.
Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
According to the above scripture Jesus was sorrowful! And the reason was because of the pains and agony He will be going through thereafter, He called it the cup of suffering.
At this junction, the Holy Spirit had left Him, He is about facing the most crucial reason for His coming into the world. On three different ccasions He repeated the same prayer (Matt.26:44):
Matthew 26: 42. … saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
He wasn’t repeating those prayers because of unbelief, rather He was repeating it because of the gravity of the task where divinity becomes humanity thereby partaking in the sin of fallen humanity.
He prayed passionately wishing there is another route to achieving the task of redemption, nevertheless He submitted His will to the will of the father, that was when He said
Matt.26:42 …saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
This is total submission to the will of the father! Beloved this is a great lesson for us, it shows that what God desires from us is a life of absolute surrender to God. It is either every thing about us surrender or nothing is surrender!
Why was Jesus made Sin ?
Jesus was made sin for the following reasons:
1. To become one with fallen humanity thereby partaking in the sin of Adam
2. To be able to die for humanity.
Genesis 2: 17. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Death was created by God, but have no power to kill until activated by sin. So, Jesus who was sinless all along has now become sin and can now be killed because sin is now found in Him.
The Bible said:
Ezekiel 18: 4. Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
So, to fulfill the requirements of the law(Rom. 5:14), He was made sin hence He has to die because every one that sin must die but He couldn’t have died if He was not made sin!
What is the implications of Jesus being made sin?
1. It guarantees our access to the Father
2. His rights and privileges automatically becomes ours
3. We can now share in divinity as we have now becomes joint heir with Christ (Rom.8:17)
4. We automatically takes the righteous nature of God in place of our depraved sinful nature.
5. We are now called the rightous as we have been made the righteousness of God in Christ. (2Cor.5:21).
Beloved, if you believe that Jesus died on the cross for your redemption, then you must believe this revelation I’m sharing with you now. In theology it is called the doctrine of inter-penetration! That is divinity penetrate humanity and both becomes one! It is like marriage relationship where husband and wife become one . If you don’t believe this then living a victoriou Christian life will be very difficult.
Remember this: Heaven is real and hell is real! The decision of where to spend eternity begins now, give your heart to Jesus today.
