TOPIC : UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF OFFENCE
Scripture : Proverbs 18: 19. A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
Beloved, I welcome you to another Moment of Daily Encounter! It will amaze you to know that Satan has two major tools through which he attacks mankind.
The tools are offence and discouragement. Today, our focus is to understand the power of offence that makes it a tool in the hand of Satan.
What power is inherent in offence that makes it a tool in the hands of Satan?
The following are my view that makes offence a tool in the hands of the devil;
1. It is the gateway to all forms of sins! Every sin, always waits at the gate of a person’s life waiting for Mr. Offence to open for them. Sins ranging from betrayal, oppression, adultery, unforgiveness, bitterness, resentment, murder etc are all at the mercy of offence.
The power of offence is like a man triggering a button that controls various other buttons. What you cannot even imagine yourself doing ordinarily, you will do it just to proof a point or pay back when you are offended!
Oh how terrible is this wicked monster called offence! it can makes a man to loose his self worth in a minute, it can makes a once good man to be evil, it can turn two lovers against themselves, it has made men to vomit words that is capable of poisoning the mind of others!
It can make a son to plot his father’s death. It has made a brother to kill his fellow brother as in the case of Cain and Abel(Gen 4). It can penetrate both the anointed )child of God and the one that is not. Both old and young, born again and non-born again alike, this weapon will work on all that open to it.
Our opening scripture (Prov.18:19) reveals that it is easier to win a city than to win an offended brother because of the power of offence. A good example is in Gen.4v 1-10, the story of the first murderer who was Cain. He was offended and sin struck. However before the arrival of sin, God warned him:
Genesis 4: 7. If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
He did not heed God’s warning and he fell for the grip of the sin of murder!
Beloved, God may have been warning you before and now He is still warning you today to desist from taking offence. It is not as if offence wouldn’t come but it is your reaction to it that determines its impact in your heart. The more offended you are, the easier it is to live in sin.
Some of you have a register of offences, some their register is in their heart. It is time to stop keeping records of offences. Let us behave like children birthed by love by behaving like our Father :
Psalm 130: 3. If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?
2. Offence has the power to deny you of your access into certain realms of the anointing! It will drain the little grace you are carrying now and leave you with shaff!
In Num.20:1-12, it is the account of Moses and Aaron who were to take the people of God into the promise land. At Meribah, the people of God got their pastor offended. An offended pastor is prone to disobedience! So Moses being their pastor, disobeyed God and God vowed never to permit him enter into promise land.
Beloved, I don’t know the prophecy that has gone ahead of you but I want to assure you that if you live in offence that prophecy may be aborted and, you may never enter your promise land. Do you desire certain dimensions of the anointing? If yes then decide to put off offence permanently and you keep it where it belongs. I will not lie to you, offence will come. It will come “plenty plenty.” Infact, the person Satan will use to bring the offence, is the person that is dear to your heart. It could be your lover, your parents, colleagues, trusted friend etc. But what you do with offence is what determines the strength of it in your life.
Remember this : Heaven is real and hell is real. The love of God is to rescue us from eternal damnation! Give your heart to Christ today.
Prayer points :
– Father thank you for your word to me today.
– Lord help me to handle offence as it comes and never to keep it in my heart in Jesus name.
Prophetic Declaration :
– I prophesy you are released from every trap of offence targeted at bringing you down in the name of Jesus.
– I declare you are entering into your season of a new song in the name Jesus.
Assignment: Decide today to eliminate offence from your heart before it becomes a tool in the hands of the devil
