TOPIC: FORGIVENESS OF ONESELF
Scripture: Colossians 1: 14. In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Beloved, in continuation of what we started yesterday on the subject of understanding how to walk in love; we did established that you can’t walk in love if you don’t practice forgiveness!
We also said forgiveness is of two categories, forgiveness of oneself and forgiveness of others.
We went on to looked at forgiveness of oneself. And today, we shall press further along this line as we examine the reasons why one must forgive himself/herself.
Why one must forgive himself/herself?
In life there are issues that crops up along our destiny journey, many of these issues bring us to a place of emotional torture and pains. If we really want to get over our pains then we must learn how to forgive ourselves.
The following are reasons why we must forgive ourselves:
1. To experience God’s love: Without forgiving yourself you can not experience God’s love and forgiveness! Many children of God are not experiencing God’s love because they have refuse to forgive themselves even when God had forgive them! Some have asked me “pastor if God loves me, why I’m I like this?” They doubt the genuineness of God’s love to them!
Beloved, God loves you greatly whether you know it or not, the Bible said:
John 3: 16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
It was God’s love that made Him sent Jesus to died on the cross for sinful humanity. And since Christ died and rose again we now have forgiveness of sins:
Colossians 1: 14. In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Beloved, if you have not experience God’s love, please forgive yourself so that you can experience God’s love because God had already forgiven you.
Colossians 2: 13. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
You may say pastor you don’t understand what I’m passing through! Yes I may not but God does! So, forgive yourself of your past mistakes please. Stop punishing yourself when God is not punishing you. I don’t know your reason of refusing to forgive yourself but I beg you in the name of Jesus forgive yourself.
Your reasons may be any of the following;
It may probably be a case of disobedience! It could be a case where you broke your vow with God. It could be a case you were put in the family way and abandoned. It could be refusal to sow seeds as instructed by the Holy Spirit. It could be a case of becoming a rape victims, HIV or other venereal diseases etc!
I only mentioned few cases as the space permits. I may not have mentioned your case but you have continuously lived in regret! Please enough of regret, it is time to talk to yourself and say ‘I will rather accept what God says about me’. Whatever be the sins that the devil is using presently to torment your life, it is time to rise up and forgive yourself
2. To enjoy answers to prayers; If we fail to forgive ourselves, it destroy our confidence which is a pillar of faith. If confidence is lost, faith will also be lost so ensure you don’t lost your confidence by forgiving yourself.
The Bible said:
1 John 3: 21. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
Our heart is the seat of faith, so when you lost confidence there, you can never get answers to prayers! Check your hearts, if it does not condemn you, then don’t condemned yourself?
1 John 5: 14. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15. And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
So many of us don’t have confidence in our prayers because we don’t have confidence that God has forgiven us our sins. Forgive yourself as you recieve forgiveness from God and you will receive answers to your prayers
3. It ensure we’re no longer a rebel (Dan.9:9): Do you know that refusal to forgive oneself makes one a rebel?
The Bible say:
Daniel 9: 9. To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him;
Our God is the custodian of forgiveness! Show to Him you are no longer a rebel by accepting to His forgiveness and then also forgive yourself. This is how you begin to walk in love (Eph 5:2) by forgiving yourself today.
Remember this: Heaven is real and hell is real! The decision of where to spend eternity is up to you. Make the right choice by giving your heart to Jesus today.

– I prophesy it is a dawn of our new day!
