DR OYEDEPO GIVES SCHOLARSHIPS, AS COVENANT UNIVERSITY MATRICULATES…CALLS FOR DISCIPLINE
The Chancellor of Covenant University, Dr. David O. Oyedepo, has counselled the freshmen of the 2023/2024 academic session, to bring themselves into discipline, under the University’s rules if they desire a life of no regrets in the future.
Dr Oyedepo gave the charge while delivering a paper titled, ‘Discipline – a Foremost Asset of Destiny,’ during the 22nd Matriculation ceremony of the University, on Friday, 24 November 2023. According to him, relevance and exploits in the race of life, are functions of adequate spiritual preparation; and the greatness of anyone’s adventure on earth is a function of the quality of their preparation.
A number of the new students matriculating are going in on fill scholarships by the Chancellor and Presiding Bishop, Dr David Oyedepo.
A story was shared recently of a young girl who won full scholarship by Bishop David Oyedepo to study accountancy at the prestigious Covenant University .
Her school fees in Accounting is N1.4m annually.
She also had her matriculation last week.
Private Schools are very affordable in Nigeria compared to other countries where Nigerians flock to go and study. It is also relatively more affordable in Covenant University presently and for some years considered the leading University in Nigeria than many private universities in Nigeria.
With the present plan to remove subsidy from public universities, Covenant may soon be considered the most affordable university in Nigeria when quality, reputation and standing of the institution is juxtaposed with cost of learning
For instance:
School fees at Harvard University is and average of $72,000 annually (N72 million) X 4 years (N286 million)
MBA at Harvard is $75,000 for one year (N75 million)
Coming to Nigeria, Private Schools are more costly than public schools as they have to source their own income.
However many are still more expensive than CU.
As stated above, School fees for accounting at CU is presently N1.4m while average fees range between 1m and 1.5m in the University.
Note that this current fees is actually an increase from the lower rate being paid before now as no course was up to N900,000 or $1000 per annum before 2020.
Meanwhile at ABTI University in Adamawa, school fees range from
N4.5m to N6.5m per session. Nile University charges between N2.6m and 6m, Afe Babalola charges between N1.2m and N2.5m and Babcock University between N1.5m and N4.5m. Some other universities such as Wesley University charge relatively much cheaper ranging between N300,000 and N500,000 However, their ratings are still upcoming. Wesley is ranked 104 in Nigeria, 554 in Africa and 11,000+ in the world standing. This implies that she might not currently be as attractive to students as the other private universities mentioned.
Living Faith Church’s second university is even more affordable than her older sister, Covenant University. However Covenant University remains the most preferred Private University in Nigeria for the last 18 years.
