TOPIC: DEVELOPING INTIMACY WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 13: 14. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
Beloved, I welcome you to another Moment of Daily Encounter! So many people equate the Holy Spirit with power! They call upon Him solely for their needs and for spiritual gifts!
This shouldn’t be so if we recognise Him as a person then we must relate with Him as such.Today, our focus is how to develop intimacy with the Holy Spirit!
How do you develop intimacy with the Holy Spirit?
Our anchor scripture is usually a rhyme in most of our churches and such we shall be looking at the last clause “the communion of the Holy Ghost,”! Now the word communion is what is refers to as Koinonia in Greek which means partnership, fellowship, sharing, association.
We therefore develop intimacy with the Holy Spirit in the place of fellowship where there is sharing and partnership together.
What does such fellowship entails?
It entails our thoughts, motives, feelings, attitudes, decisions, plans, fears, hope, passion, vision and choices.
The Bible said:
Psalm 27: 4. One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple.
So, our fellowship with the Holy Spirit is for life and it involves the totality of man (spirit, soul and body) cultivating a daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Technology as good as they are have rubbish this beautiful experience.
For example, it as the point you want to start fellowship that is when your phone will be ringing here and there just to distract you. Some persons are not discipline enough to switch off their phone for fellowship.
Infact some have idolize their phones such that the phone is more valuable to them than their personal relationship with the Holy Spirit.
We must therefore be discipline enough to avoid all distraction on daily basis just maintain our relationship with the Holy Spirit.
How do we cultivate daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit?
1. Develop sensitivity to the Holy Spirit: we must understand that the Holy Spirit is a gentle person and as such will never force Himself on anyone.
He is like a woman you are trying to woo into relationship and she is trying to hang your mind, although she is interested in you yet, she will pretend as if she doesn’t like you until you persist enough!
So also is the Holy Spirit, He will test your willingness, your love for Him, your passion and hunger for His person.
That’s why He reveals Himself in parts, if you see one part today tomorrow is going to be another. And the day you stop that is all you will ever know about Him. Therefore to develop sensitivity requires solitude, a quiet time, a time of silence.
Psalm 46: 10. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Beloved, when you started your journey with the Holy Spirit, you are ready to spend time with Him but now what has happened? No time again!
The Holy Ghost is saying to you today, why have you allow the pursuit of life to take His place in your life?
Can you welcome Him back again? Some are even looking at their wrist watch in church to tell pastor your time is up. We need to go back to the basis where we share sweet communion with the Holy Spirit
2. Through Daily Communication: Learn to greet the Holy Spirit, ask Him questions, invite Him to help you through your challenges. And freely share your joy and sorrows with Him. At first it may look awkward as you seems to hear no reply but as you continue you hear Him, understand His language gradually
3. Through daily Bible study:
You must discipline your self to have a daily quiet time of meditation on scripture then invite the Holy Spirit to study alongside with you and to open your eyes (Eph.1:17)
Remember this: Heaven is real and hell is real! The decision to spend eternity with God begins now, so give your heart to Jesus today.
Prayer points :
– Father, thank you for your word to me today
– Lord, I obtain grace to cultivate intimacy with the Holy Spirit in Jesus name.
Prophetic declaration :
– I prophesy the power of Divinity that came upon Mary for immaculate conception, comes upon you now in the name of Jesus
– The Holy Spirit that gives wisdom releases His wisdom from above upon you now in the name of Jesus.
Assignment: Seprate spiritual exercise from your normal activities and never allow anything to swallow your daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit daily.
