Recognize that it is common: you are not alone, masturbation itself is well known to mankind. At least one in every three men had suffered or is suffering from this addiction. It’s not new to man’s existence; many have come through and have successfully conquered it. Scriptures that there’s no affliction that is not common to man, but God himself will grant you grace to overcome.
1Corithains 10:13 “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
Recognize that it’s a sin: All unrighteousness is sin 1John5:17. And masturbation, is sin not any ordinary sin, it is a sin against God and against your body, 1 Cor6:18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.
. Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost and must not be defiled.
Masturbation also result from lust of the eyes which is a sin, you can’t engage it without imagining a lust for the opposite sex. Masturbation corrupts the mind and makes one dirty and most times its victims are low self-esteemed. Many who suffer from this may have not deliberately put their self in the condition, it may have been through ignorance or sexual abuse early in life, so don’t crucify you.
Don’t judge yourself: although it’s a sin, don’t judge yourself, as I said earlier many may have ignorantly fallen into it or through sexual abuse. But don’t judge yourself; you are no better when you do so, you only yourself over and over again killing yourself over it
You can defeat this addiction: whatever you exalt in your mind would forever be a lord over you. No matter how completely over ruled a situation may seem recognize there is always a way out. Many great men had suffered this and made it through, you will not be the first to fail when you believe you are a conqueror. Be it to you according to your faith Matthew9:29
Recognize it’s a battle in your Spirit, Soul and Body: you may have been trying to conquer this for a really long time and been wondering why I can’t stop this, you may have made resolutions over and over again about it and always failed, in may be a week or a month. It’s because you have failed to recognize the bone of contention in this battle. I said earlier, it corrupts the mind which is your soul.
Paul said that which I don’t want to do, I find myself doing Romans 7:15 ”I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do”. This is because there is a battle within your spirit and your body anytime you decide to stop, your spirit want to stop but your body keep resisting and your mind has been corrupted.
And if your spirit is not strong enough you will eventually give in. if your flesh is not weekend and your mind is not cleansed with the word of God, you will eventually give in, I’ve read articles where one of the way recommended that one should engage in works out, they may had probably recognized that when your body is weaken your spirit would be more alive and you can control your will better.
Feed your soul, edify your spirit, and starve your body: as I said it’s a battle between your spirit, soul and body, therefore you must take effective steps on each component. Feed your mind with the word regularly, be a student of the word, feed yourself with all spiritual books you can reach daily. Edify your spirit, by speaking in tongues, constant fellowship with the Holy Ghost, so as to keep your spirit alive always. Starve your body, don’t always give in to the desire of your body, fast regularly, that keeps your spirit alive and starves the flesh, and be effectual on the prayer altar, fellowshipping with God.
Love God, Serve God: be in consistent service to God, be a lover that will never want to betray his lover, fear God and live just to please him and nothing else.
Believe ye me that there’s no magic any man can do for you, it’s a personal responsibility you will embark on to over this, know this the devil does not want you to be free that why he had kept you in that pit for this long “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” Eph6:12. But your time of liberty is now! The time of salvation is now, for it is to you according your faith.
Grow spiritually, grow in the knowledge of God
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds 2Cor10:4
